A Bowflex is an exercise machine that promises to help you lose weight and stay in shape. It's a bit tricky to set up. Read this eHow to learn how to assemble a Bowflex machine.
Assemble the Frame
Decide on the location of the Bowflex in your home. You want an area that will allow the machine to move without banging into walls. You also need enough space to extend the bench to its full length. A dedicated spot for the machine would allow you to keep the machine set up without having to take it down between uses.
Set the standing platform on the floor, wide end facing you. Insert the right frame rail connectors into the right side of the standing platform. Put 3/8 inch washers on two hex bolts, and insert them into the holes of the right frame rail and the standing platform.
Slip the rear cross bar's connector into the right frame rail. Put a washer on another hex bolt and insert it into the holes of the cross car's connector and the right frame rail. Repeat the process for the left frame rail and cross bar.
Place the rod box on the ground and slip it into the rod box frame. Keep it in place by inserting screws with washers into the holes in the rod box and rod box frame. Tighten the screws so that the 2 pieces are securely fastened.
Center the lat tower assembly (the rod box and frame) and place it in the rear cross bar's bracket. Keep them in place by inserting hex bolts with washers into the holes of the rear cross bar and lat tower assembly.
Insert one end of the seat support rail into the bracket on the standing platform, the other into the bracket on the lat tower. Keep them in place by inserting hex bolts with washers into the holes of the seat support rail and the brackets on the Bowflex's standing platform and lat tower.
Slide the squat pulley over ends of the right and left squat rails. Line up the holes in the left and right squat bars with those in the seat support rail. Keep the rails in place by inserting hex bolts with washers. Put a Nylock nut on the end of each hex bolt and tighten them.
Insert the left and right squat foot assembly into the connectors located on the squat frame rails. Secure them in place by inserting hex bolts with washers. Tighten the hardware so the squat pieces are secure.
Place the right and left pulley arms into the brackets on the left and right frame rails. Make certain the holes are facing out from the frame rails. Insert hex bolts with washers into the holes of the pulley arms and frame rails.
Line up the right and left pulley arms with the lower lat tower. Slide the threaded pulley studs through both holes. Secure them by putting washers and Nylock nuts over the ends of the pulley studs and tightening them firmly. Slide the chest pulleys over the left and right arms. Insert the socket cap bolt into the holes located on the bottom of the pulley arms, which keeps the slider pulleys from coming off of your Bowflex.
Attach the pulley shroud to the left and right pulley arms by inserting self-drilling screws with washers into the holes. Tighten the hardware on everything left untightened to this point.
Line up the holes on the back of the seat and the seat backbone. Fasten them together with washers and hex bolts. Set the seat on the seat support rail by tipping the seat back and then down to set the hooks on the seat back bone to the seat support rail. Attach the seat back to the rail by aligning the bolt holes at the proper height. Insert hex bolts with washers and tighten them.
Set the front lat cross bar in the upper lat tower bracket and insert hex bolts with washers. Tighten the hex bolts by putting washers and Nylock nuts on the other ends.
Insert the rear lat cross bar into the bracket on the upper lat tower and secure them in place with hex bolts, washers and Nylock nuts. Slip the upper lat tower into the lower lat tower. Insert hex bolts with washers into each hole. Lightly tighten the bolt on the back of the lat pulley housing after removing the cap.
Replace the cap when you are finished. Attach the lat pulley housing brackets on both sides of the lat tower. Secure them in place with the hex bolts with washers. This is the last step for setting up the frame of the Bowflex. Next comes the pulleys and cables.
Pulleys and Cables
Remove the washer from the bolt on the lat pulley housing (you'll put it back on your Bowflex later).
Unwrap the outer pulley cable, and pass it through the lower and upper pulleys on the right side. Hold it while you do the same with the pulleys on the left side. Slide the two pulleys into the lat pulley housing. Keep them in place with hex bolts with washers. Tighten the hardware.
Thread the right cable through the floating pulley, then through the pulley on the rear lat cross bar and the front cross bar. Thread the end of the cable through the cable end stop ball so the cable won't slip backwards through the pulleys. Do the same with the left cable. Slip the cable end ball stops over the ferrule (metal ring at the end of the rod). Hook the ferrule to the 10 pound power rod.
Move the right frame squat pulley to the hole that is at the back, then pass the right cable through the cable shroud. Pass the cable under and through the rear cross bar pulley and up through the floating pulley. Continue up through the inner right frame rail pulley, the right arm pulley, the cable end stop and cable core. Do the same with the left cable.
Remove the seat and attach the leg extension assembly to the seat backbone's open end. Insert the leg knob through the holes in the backbone and the leg extension. Put the seat back on the backbone.
Put the chrome roller tubes through the upper and lower holes on the leg extension. Make certain the roller rests on your lower shin. Put the foam rollers on the tube ends. Keep them in place with the end caps. Connect the cables to the leg extensions with the snap hooks.
