The TaylorMade R9 driver gives you the option to change the face angle, loft and lie of the club, as well as the center of gravity. Simply put, you can adjust the setting to change the ball flight. So, for example, if you want to hit the ball higher, you can lower the center of gravity and increase the loft. The eight settings of what TaylorMade calls Flight Control Technology, together with the three driver weights, provide you with a total of 24 trajectory adjustments and the potential for up to a 75-yard deviation in direction change.
Flight Control Technology
Locate the bolt in the heel of the club directly above the shaft. Use the TaylorMade R9 wrench to turn the bolt counterclockwise, loosening it.
Lift the club head from the shaft to expose the tip of the shaft and the Flight Control Technology sleeve. Turn the sleeve to the setting you desire, lining the setting up with the white mark on the front of the hosel.
Set the sleeve to "Left" for maximum draw and loft if you currently slice the ball. Set the sleeve to "Upright" for a slight draw and a neutral loft.
Set the sleeve to "Right" for a controlled fade and low loft if you currently hook the ball. "Neutral" provides a slight fade and a neutral loft off the face of the club.
Replace the club head on the shaft covering the FCT sleeve. Tighten the bolt in the heel of the R9 driver club head until you hear the R9 wrench click, securing the club to the shaft.
Insert the 16-gram weight in the toe cavity on the R9 driver and place the two single-gram weights in the center and heel cavities to correct a hook. Use the TaylorMade R9 wrench to tighten the weights.
Move the 16-gram weight to the heel cavity on the R9 driver and place the single-gram weights in both the center and toe cavities to correct a slice.
Place the 16-gram weight in the center cavity of the R9 driver if you typically hit a straight shot. Insert the two single-gram weights in both the heel and toe cavities.
