How to Remove Q-LOK Spikes From Your Shoes

By Andrea Griffith

Golf spikes are very important to the sport, because they offer traction between your shoes and the ground, which can be helpful if the grass/turf is wet. Also, spikes help keep your feet from slipping while you're swinging the club. For best results, you should change your spikes about every 12 to 15 rounds of golf. Although removing your Q-LOK spikes is not difficult, if you do not have the proper tools, it can be a hassle.

Turn your shoes upside down and hold the first pair in your nondominant hand.

Place the Q-LOK wrench around the first spike to be removed. Turn the wrench counterclockwise until the spike begins to loosen.

Pull the spike out of the shoe. Repeat these steps until all the spikes have been pulled out of the shoes. Then do the same with the second shoe. For a stubborn spike, continue to Step 4.

Squirt a small amount of an oil lubricant, like WD-40, onto the base of the spike. Allow several minutes to pass to let the lubricant seep into the tread of the spike. Then place the Q-LOK wrench onto the spike and turn counterclockwise to loosen.
