How to Make Dentures Step By Step

By Contributing Writer ; Updated July 27, 2017

The dental industry is big business healthcare at its finest. Not to mention the fact that making fake teeth in the movie industry or just for fun is a skill many aspiring special effects artists need to acquire. Making dentures is not an easy task - or an inexpensive one. This article will show you how to make your own special effects dentures at home.

Making the First Mold

  1. Fill dental try with alginate.

  2. Wait several minutes and remove the tray. If it sticks wiggle it a little to break up the vacuum it may have made.

  3. Mix Ultracel and pour into the cast you made. Tap the cast to release air bubbles and to allow the Ultracel to fill all areas. Let the cast with Ultracel rest for 45 minutes to an hour.

  4. Separate case from tray very carefully as to not damage the plaster.

  5. Use your various dental tools and dremel to fix the plaster casting using great care to not break it.

  6. Tip

If you want normal dentures skip sculpting steps and extra mold making. \nBroken plaster means having to start over. \nNever rush. \nWhen fitting in the dental tray with alginate do so standing up and bent of a sink. \nIf you do not intend to fill your cast with plaster right away submerge it in hot water so it will not shrink.

Working with these chemicals are dangerous and should only be worked on in a forced ventilation system area. \nAlways wear safety glasses and mask. \nWhen fixing up your first cast do not remove the muscle between the teeth and gum.
