How to Become a World's Strongest Man

A World's Strongest Man is an event winner at the global, annual World's Strongest Man competition, which is the premier event for strength athletes. The WSM competition has crowned the strongest men on the planet for over 30 years by testing them in various feats of strength. Each year, the competition is held in a different country.

Register for an open amateur qualifying event to compete in the Giants Live competition. Giants Live is the exclusive qualifying event for the WSM competition. (In 2009, Giants Live superseded the Strongman Super Series competition as the qualifying event for the WSM competition.)

Compete in the amateur qualifying event by participating in the following four events: farmer's walk, log press, Atlas stones and medley. Earn first, second or third place with a combined score to advance to the Grand Prix event.

Compete in six different tests of strength at a Grand Prix event. Those tests include the log press, the truck pull, the deadlift, Atlas stones, farmer's walk and medley.

Earn first, second or third place at a Grand Prix event. The top three performers at each Grand Prix event qualify for the WSM competition.

Become a World's Strongest Man at the WSM competition by outperforming all other participants in several events, which include carry and drag, log press, pillars of Hercules, Fingal's fingers, truck pull, deadlift, squat lift, overhead lift, Atlas stones, farmer's walk, fridge carry, plane pull or Africa stone.
