Can I Burn Fat in Two Weeks?

By William McCoy ; Updated April 18, 2017

If you need to lose a significant amount of weight to reach your goals, it's easy to feel daunted by the process. Instead of getting lost in the big picture, narrow your focus and create short-term goals. In two weeks, for example, you won't sculpt a completely new body, but you can burn enough fat to shed a few pounds and feel encouraged about improving your health.

Set a Four-Pound Goal

If you commit to eating a health-conscious diet and getting regular exercise, it's possible to burn weight over a two-week span. Your diet and exercise impact how quickly you can lose weight, but a goal of up to two pounds per week is reasonable. By the end of your second week, you might be able to lose up to four pounds. Burning fat to lose weight means you need to burn calories through exercise and limit your calorie intake, which can put your body in a phase known as a calorie deficit. Every deficit of 3,500 calories that you achieve results in the loss of a pound.
