Pregnant moms tend to get most of the attention. They are doing the hard work by carrying the baby for nine months, but you shouldn’t overlook the soon-to-be-father. Make him feel special by hosting a coed baby shower, sending a gift for the father to the baby shower or sending him a gift a month or two before the baby is due.
Give the father a basket of items that will help him get through the rough times. Include a package of coffee for the early mornings and lack of sleep, foot massaging lotion for when his wife becomes stressed out, a disposable camera to capture all the significant moments and a diaper changing kit that includes rubber gloves, an apron and goggles. You can also include a book about fathers and sons or fathers and daughters if you know the sex of the baby. He’ll laugh when he opens it but appreciate the contents when he really needs them.
Man’s Diaper Bag
There are going to be plenty of times when the new father needs to tote his baby somewhere without mom. He’s not going to want to carry the bright pink baby bag that the baby’s mother received at her baby shower, so give him a manly bag he can carry with pride. Make sure there is room for all diaper changing essentials plus a place to put the car keys and cell phone.
Give the soon-to-be-father a box of sports related items. You can include tickets to a sporting event that you know will help him relax before the baby’s due date, matching jerseys for the father and his baby and a small football or soccer ball so the father can teach his child how to play in the future. You could also include a kit for watching sports at home with his new baby. Give him a foam finger, a couple packets of popcorn and some candy.
The dad-to-be is probably going to have to take on more responsibilities while the mother is recovering from giving birth and bonding with the baby. He might need some hands on help around the house. Give him handmade gift certificates letting him know to call you anytime for specific tasks. For instance, you could give him a certificate to clean the house, do the laundry for a week, cook dinner for the first three evenings or cut the grass. This will the help the father spend more time with his newborn and wife.
