How Many Calories Does Celery Have?

By Janet Renee, MS, RD

Eating more low-calorie vegetables, like celery, is a good place to start in your quest to make healthier food choices. As with most nonstarchy vegetables, celery is naturally low in calories. The bulk of the content is water. Celery is rich in phosphorus, vitamin A, folate, potassium and especially vitamin K.

Calories in Celery

A large stalk of celery contains a mere 10 calories, while a medium stalk contains 6 calories and a small stalk only has 3 calories. You can enjoy celery on its own, and it's also a very versatile vegetable. You can put a teaspoon of peanut butter on the stem for a sweet snack. It makes a savory bite when low-fat cottage cheese is stuffed into the stem. It's a healthy replacement for chips when you need a crunchy texture for dips.
