Whether your youngster's playmate just sneezed on the toys or she's been trying to feed building blocks to the dog again, cleaning opportunities probably present themselves quite often. Preventing the spread of germs is important to your child's health and one way to ensure she isn't spreading germs is to keep the toys clean -- and dog drool-free -- by disinfecting them with bleach regularly.
Mix 1/4 cup bleach with 1 gallon water and set the mixture aside.
Fill the sink with hot, soapy water and wash the toys thoroughly. Rinse the toys well.
Place the toys in the bleach solution for 10 to 20 minutes. Rinse well with cool water, and air dry on a clean towel.
If a larger yield of the diluted bleach solution is required, larger quantities can be made using the above bleach to water ratio.
This disinfection process is for hard plastic toy items only. Bleach is corrosive and can damage skin, fabrics and other surfaces. Always use bleach in a well-ventilated area and do not combine it with any other cleaning product to avoid releasing toxic fumes into the air.
